No wonder Santa Clara County executive Pete Kutras was not invited to give any commencement addresses this year.

Lately the D.A. has been getting more money, and the Office of the Public Defender has been getting less. Public Defenders have absurd caseloads these days; something like 150 clients at any one time, whereas the D.A. has several times the staffing levels. Maybe if we keep that up we can get a greater proportion of people in jail than any other industrialized country. Oh, wait.
