Lately the D.A. has been getting more money, and the Office of the Public Defender has been getting less. Public Defenders have absurd caseloads these days; something like 150 clients at any one time, whereas the D.A. has several times the staffing levels. Maybe if we keep that up we can get a greater proportion of people in jail than any other industrialized country. Oh, wait.
