Make that "not hiring"

Palo Alto Weekly A&E Editor Rebecca Wallace, who also happens to be Embarcadero Publishing's sole competent blogger, is holding a caption contest for Laurie Naiman's photo of Sears Mountain View.

"Now Firing"?

Actually, we bought some new appliances at one of their 20%-off sales, and were happy to hear that they found places for a bunch of their old-timer appliance salesmen at other Sears stores. They are some of the best sales people we've run across in a long time.

Too funny. I was just there yesterday and was those signs. I was like "huh"? Maybe they know something we don't?

Cool! I'm holding a caption contest. I'd come up with some ideas, but I'm too busy reading "The Descent." ;)

Breaking news from the president of the Monta Loma Neighborhood Association:

10:19:50 AM: "A councilmember called me this morning to say that it looks like Home Depot may not be taking over the Sears site after all.

"It turns out that the property owner (the Thoits family) looked at the prospect of no income for a couple of years while the remodel was going on, and decided to restructure the deal with Sears. Yes, the current store is closing, but apparently there will be a Sears reopening within a couple of months with a whole upgraded line of merchandise."

10:42:59 AM: "Things are happening fast this morning! The PR representative for Home Depot just called to say that the Home Depot deal is NOT cancelled. However since the entitlement process is going to take longer than Home Depot planned, the property owner and Sears reached a deal to re-open the Sears store on a month-to-month basis while the Home Depot permits work their way through the Mt. View planning process."

Gotta love it when the readers are breaking news in the comments section. Good news about Sears staying open. That would explain the sign.

I'm glad it's staying open. It remains the only place I've ever purchased clothes, though last time I went they were out of sweatpants.
